Synopsis

The film was made in North Vietnam from February through May of 1967 by filmmaker-writer Felix Greene, who was on assignment for CBS-TV News and The San Francisco Chronicle. Rather than stress the actual scenes of warfare, Greene concentrates on the personal incidents and suffering brought on by the war. The lives of the cheerful rural Vietnamese are shown; Ho Chi Minh is seen addressing some villagers; Prime Minister Pham Van Dong explains his country's position on the war; a Vietnamese colonel uses U. S. Army statistics to prove that several million U. S. men would be needed to defeat his country; Greene interviews a hospitalized U. S. pilot who urges the American people to reexamine their stance on the war; and a peasant denounces the Americans for killing his wife and child.
