Synopsis

During World War I, the German forces invade the small country of Lurania, whereupon its ruler, Prince Sebastian, goes into hiding. His niece, Countess Therese, serves as ambulance driver "477" on the French front, where one day she receives a message from the prince asking her to meet him in Spanish Falls, Maine, with the crown jewels. Her reply is intercepted by master thief Chester Naismith, who strikes a bargain with Prince Ugo, the pretender to the Luranian throne, whereby the thief will obtain the jewels and the "prince," the countess. Captain Thomas Barnes, an American sent home to recover from an ailing heart, falls in love with driver 477 on the steamer, and in Maine, he recovers the jewels from Naismith, who had stolen them despite Ugo's betrayal. In attempting to kidnap the countess, Ugo is arrested, leaving Therese and Captain Barnes free to resume their duties in France after a quiet wedding.
