Synopsis
Fighting over the rich Red Eagle gold mine, Steve and Spoffard, its coowners, mortally wound each other. In his final moments, Steve signs over his half-interest claim in the mine to his friend Matt Black; the other half of the mine is inherited by Spoffard's daughter, Bertie. Matt goes to the mine and asks for work, concealing his identity in order to protect himself. During a fire in the mine, Bertie is trapped below ground, and Matt rescues her. When the miners are later incited to riot by the dishonest foreman, Spangler, Matt helps to put it down and then protects Bertie from a villainous attack by Spangler, killing him in a fight. Matt then realizes that he loves Bertie and tears up his claim to the mine; but Bertie, who has come to love Matt in return, offers to marry him, giving him a whole interest in the mine.
