Synopsis

In the desert, Red Hepner and his pal, Toby Jones, find by the body of a prospector a canteen on which a scratched message indicates that the dead man had been robbed and murdered and requests that the finder take care of a surviving daughter, Ann Crawford. Red and Toby, accompanied by Jack Pemberton, an old friend, proceed to Dugan's halfway house after rescuing Ann Crawford during a stage holdup. Pemberton marries Ann to prevent the ruffians at the halfway house from molesting her, but he promises to give her an annulment in the next town. At Ohi, Red and Toby overhear Luke Matthews, owner of the stageline (whom they suspect to be Jim Crawford's murderer), plan a fake holdup of the stage. Though their first attempt to prevent the holdup is unsuccessful, Red and Toby later capture the stagecoach driver (Baxter) and the bandits and bring them to Ohi. There Matthews, having accused Pemberton of murdering Crawford, has turned Pemberton over to a lynching party. Baxter and the bandits admit that Matthews is their leader; the authorities exchange Pemberton for Matthews; and Toby and Red ride off while Pemberton settles down with Ann.
