Synopsis

Alain de Montcalm, the son of French Canadian trading post commandante Michel de Montcalm, is sent to conduct business in a neighboring town, where he meets and falls in love with Therese Le Noir, the daughter of his father's assistant, Caesar. Upon his return home, he learns that Caesar has killed Michel and abducted his sister Virginie. Grief-stricken and angry, Alain denounces Therese as the daughter of a murderer and turns her over to the lecherous Numa, after which he sets out in pursuit of Caesar. At the abandoned stockade where Caesar holds Virginie prisoner, the villain wounds the girl in a struggle for his gun and then flees into the forest. Alain follows him but soon returns home to care for his sister and Therese, whom he discovers lying unconscious in the snow. Therese accepts his apology and his marriage proposal, and later they learn that Caesar has been devoured by wolves.
