Months later she consents to marry Dr. Danilo, out of respect and gratitude for his saving her mother's life, but she then discovers that Wellman's wife is dead and had been hopeless insane. At the wedding reception, Danilo learns of her connections with Wellman and Flint, and excited by jealousy he attempts to shoot Claire and then shoots himself.
