Synopsis
While Laura West is engaged to marry Howard Hollister, she meets his friend Stephen Rhodes, who has just returned from India and has become converted to the worship of Gaia, the Eternal Mother. She visits Stephen's sanctuary, and his repeated attempts to convert her provoke a quarrel with Hollister after their marriage. In a dream she goes again to the sanctuary and is initiated into Stephen's religion. She bears a child and realizing the baseness of his teachings she abandons it. Stephen threatens to kill the child if she does not return to him. She awakens from her dream and becomes reconciled to her husband's point of view.
