Synopsis
According to the wills of two men who owned it, the East African island of Japat is to go to their grandchildren, Robert Browne and Agnes Deppingham, provided that they live there 6 months and marry each other. Should the stipulation be ignored, the island reverts to the natives. Browne, an American, is married but comes to Japat to comply with half of the provision. Lady Agnes Deppingham arrives on Japat and proceeds to lure Browne away from his wife. The natives, led by Rasnea, intend to take possession of the island, by force if necessary. Hollingsworth Chase, an American attorney representing the interests of his British firm, meets Princess Genevra, a guest of Lady Deppingham, and falls in love with her. Together they become involved in the native uprisings on the island, which finally goes to the heirs. Princess Genevra gives up her throne and title to marry Chase; and Browne, realizing his mistake in flirting with Lady Deppingham, asks his wife's forgiveness.
