Synopsis

Buddy Hale rescues Janet Lane from a runaway horse before arriving in Steer City, where, unknown to him, her brother, Ward, has just shot the sheriff. Ward, heading a crowd of indignant ranchers whose cattle are being systematically rustled, suspects the sheriff and Justice Bert Wagner of heading the thieves. Wagner makes Buddy sheriff and sends him to arrest his predecessor's murderer. One of Wagner's accomplices deliberately shoots Ward, and Buddy returns the dying man to his sister, thus incurring her enmity. The ranchers, led by Janet, steal back their cattle; and at Chick's insistence Janet discusses the situation with Buddy, who is convinced of Wagner's guilt. In a showdown, Butch and Wagner perish in a cattle stampede, while Janet is saved by Buddy, who then is made mayor.
