Synopsis

While vacationing in Brittany, successful New York attorney George Crosby falls in love with and marries Renee Kerouac, a fisherman's daughter. Within days, George realizes that Renee's lack of breeding and culture repulse him, and he leaves her at a convent and returns to America. Hearing that Renee and his child have perished in a fire, George marries Cynthia Ford. Renee surprises her husband with a visit, but George denies that she is his wife, and she dies of a broken heart. The child is not heard from until years later when George, now a judge, sits at the trial of a young woman charged with the murder of her baby. The young woman is Renee's daughter, and she is convicted. George, paralyzed by the shock, lives in terror until the father of his daughter's child, Val Lewis, comes to her rescue and produces her baby.
