Synopsis

When trapper Joe Manchin meets Jean Verette at her father's saloon in a mining town of the Canadian Northwest, it is love at first sight. When a drunken miner attempts to force his attentions upon Jean in the saloon, Joe is forced to shoot and kill the man. Hearing the shots, constable McKenzie of the North West Mounted Police comes to investigate, and Jean and Joe escape through a secret door. Seeking refuge in the wilderness, the couple are married and take up life in a cabin deep in the timber country. A year later, fate brings McKenzie face to face with Joe in the woods. Joe flees to his cabin to protect his pregnant wife, securing a hiding place in the woods for her. Soon after, McKenzie arrives and a bloody fight ensues. During a lull in the battle, Joe runs out of the cabin to see how Jean is faring, and the constable, determined to get his man, follows and is killed by a pack of wolves, thus allowing the Manchins to return to their life of solitude.
