Synopsis

After newspaper reporter Scoop McGuire makes repeated toasts to the human female, the sex he hates, he is whisked into a taxi by his friend, Cookie Smith, and is joined by a strange woman. Though surprised, Scoop, who has lost his job due to the machinations of his rival, Powell, agrees to take the woman to his apartment. There, Scoop realizes that the woman is Anne Meredith, a notorious fugitive who is wanted for the murder of her husband. Convinced of Anne's innocence, Scoop connives to have her change clothes with two of his showgirl friends and takes her to a new hideout. In order to curb his growing attraction to Anne, Scoop reminds himself of the times that women have deceived him and how much he despises womanhood. While trying to keep Powell from finding out Anne's identity, Scoop follows a trail to the real killer. With Cookie's help, Scoop outsmarts and humiliates Powell, then locates the killer, just as the police stumble on to the scene. After the murderess issues a dying confession, Scoop enjoys his once-in-a-lifetime scoop and confesses his love to Anne.
