Synopsis

Struggling young author George Anderson has nearly completed The Mortal Sin , a novel which deals with a wife's sacrifice of her honor in order to enable her sick husband to go to a sanitarium. In the story, the husband returns unexpectedly and learns the truth, but forgives all when he learns that it was done for him. Anderson, due to hard work, collapses and is forced to recuperate out West. His wife Jane is employed by a publisher who refuses to publish the book unless she becomes his mistress. Her husband destitute, Jane has no other course to pursue, and so sacrifices herself for the sake of having the novel published. Returning home unexpectedly, Anderson learns of his wife's infidelity and chokes her to death. He is sentenced to die, but while being led to the death house, wakes up and realizes that it was all a dream.
