Synopsis

Maida, a country girl, comes to the city with Jack Morgan, an unscrupulous gambler, but runs away after he robs Steve Boyce of $40,000 during a poker game. Maida takes a job with the Salvation Army and once again meets Steve, who, now penniless, has come looking for a handout. They fall in love, but when Steve proposes, Maida insists that she is not good enough for him because of her past relationship with Jack. Then, hoping to help Steve, Maida goes to Jack and asks him to return at least some of Steve's money. When he refuses, they start to struggle, and Maida shoots him with his own gun. Sheriff Barrett, who knows all about Jack, clears Maida of a murder charge, and then, after Maida returns the stolen money to Steve, she finally agrees to marry him.
