Synopsis

William Morton, affectionately known to his employees as Uncle Billy, operates a large tungsten mine in the town of Sunrise, New Mexico. With the United States' involvement in World War I, Uncle Billy strives to increase production, since tungsten is one of Uncle Sam's valuable war resources. Jim Logan, who appears to be a drifter, arrives in town just as J. Alexander Gage, actually a German spy, is attempting to incite the miners into striking for higher wages. Jim wins the admiration of Uncle Billy's daughter Suzanne, but because he breaks up a meeting designed to inflame the workers against Uncle Billy, Gage angrily tells Suzanne that the cowboy is involved with chorus girl Dolly Dugan. After Jim rescues Uncle Billy from Gage's men, the German has him imprisoned in the jailhouse, but Jim escapes and then learns from Dolly, a U.S. agent assigned to help him, that the Germans plan to blow up the mine and place the blame on the strikers. Jim prevents the explosion and routs the strikers, after which he pursues the car in which Gage is escaping with Suzanne. Leaping into the car, Jim handcuffs Gage and then takes Suzanne in his arms.
