Synopsis
While painting in the French countryside, nobleman Arthur de Sivry falls in love with Marie, a peasant girl. His elderly uncle, Count de Baudine, a roué, presses an unwelcome suit for Marie until she is sent to Paris, where she joins a troop of entertainers. De Sivry, unable to paint without the inspiration of Marie, also goes to Paris and offers her the use of his apartment. The count, discovering their arrangement, spreads scandal reflecting on Marie and announces de Sivry's engagement to another woman. Marie's father comes to Paris and returns home to report his daughter's downfall. The marquis shows that he is anxious to make her his wife, however, and all ends happily.
