Synopsis

Deburau, a Parisian Pierrot and idol of the populace, becomes involved with Marie Duplessis and is disillusioned when she casts him aside in favor of Armand. His wife, hearing of the affair, elopes with Robillard. Deburau takes comfort in his son's determination to follow in his stage role. Years later, Marie returns to him, delirious with fever, and marries him, thinking he is Armand. Unable to perform following her death, he finds happiness in seeing his son triumph in his former part.
