Synopsis

Stan Novack, a New York City mechanic, manhandles his wife, Jean, out of exasperation when she neglects their 3-year-old son or drinks excessively. He remains ignorant of her affairs with other men. Jean seduces Stan's best friend, Eddie, and then continues to pursue him when he tries to avoid seeing her again. To insure their future meetings, Jean persuades Stan to introduce his unmarried sister, Ellen, to Eddie. The plan backfires, however, when the couple fall in love and announce their engagement. Furious, Jean arranges for Ellen to find her with Eddie in a compromising situation. Although her scheme works, the enraged Eddie beats her up and leaves. More determined than ever to win him back, Jean abandons her young son and trails Eddie to a bar where an orgy is going on in the back room. Eddie leaves immediately, but Jean joins the lovemaking, gets drunk, and then goes to Eddie's apartment. Meanwhile, Stan learns that their little son has been killed in a fall from an open window. Grief- stricken, he tracks Jean to Eddie's apartment, storms in, and beats up Eddie. The terrified Jean runs to the rooftop to escape, and Stan follows her. Ellen arrives at the apartment to offer forgiveness to Eddie. Eddie and Ellen, fearful that Stan will murder Jean, run to the rooftop and watch as the struggling Jean and Stan topple over a ledge and plunge to their deaths.
