Synopsis

The film begins with a prolog depicting the Kingdom of Human Hearts, a land of plenty where Innocence rules and the Subjects are happy. But Innocence succumbs to Temptation--despite Knowledge's warning--with the result that Ignorance, Greed, and Fear live among the Subjects. Sin is born to Innocence and Temptation, and Knowledge apparently dies. Finally realizing the unhappy plight of her people, Innocence--with the help of Knowledge--finds Faith and Love. Later, Truth is born to Innocence and Love; they all eventually return to the Kingdom, Ignorance and Sin are overthrown, and all ends happily. ... Switching to a modern setting of a high school graduation, May Leslie is obviously the prettiest and most popular of her group--admired by boys, especially Jack Sheldon, and envied by the girls. But her head is quickly turned by Monte Bruce (a visitor from the city), May ignores The Philosopher's good advice and elopes with Monte. Only unhappiness befalls May: she gives birth to a sickly child, and Monte deserts her for Sylvia, a long-time companion. Monte and Sylvia become involved in a seance racket, which culminates in the murder of Monte by Daniel Holden, whose wife was wronged by Bruce. During all this time Jack has searched for May, and they are now reunited with the help of The Philosopher.
