Synopsis

Serge IV, King of Molvania, is told that he must negotiate a large loan by either concluding an alliance with the House of Slavonia or through lease of oil lands to American capitalists. The king decides on the latter course and journeys to New York via Paris, where he meets Gladys Humphreys. In New York, tired of negotiations with oil representative Arthur Trent, he sneaks off to Coney Island where he has a wonderful time with a freckled boy named "Skinny" Smith. He meets Gladys again, and she introduces him to her fiancé, John Rockland, who (not knowing him to be a king) invites him to his home in Little Falls, New Jersey. There the king falls genuinely in love with Gladys but is caught in a delicate situation by Trent and is obliged to sign a lease lest her reputation be ruined. The king returns to Molvania, acquires a queen from the House of Slovania, and is told he can never leave his country again.
