Synopsis

Lucille Bennett tires of her husband Oliver, preferring the attentions of Dr. Emilio Toranno. Knowing that Lucille's devoted husband will never consent to a divorce, the doctor injects Oliver with a poison that produces skin rashes and then convinces him that he has contracted leprosy. Distraught, Oliver rows out to sea intending to drown himself, but his desire to live proves too strong, and he allows himself to be rescued by a passing vessel. The ship docks in Capetown, South Africa, where Oliver meets Sanderson, a physician who has made a fortune in the diamond mines. Later, Sanderson dies, leaving Oliver half of his fortune, and the other half to be delivered to Sanderson's long-lost daughter. Seeking revenge, Oliver returns home in disguise and, posing as a stockbroker, persuades Toranno to invest his entire fortune in worthless stock. Next, he convinces the doctor that Lucille, now Toranno's wife, has been unfaithful. Sanderson's ward Jewel, who loves Oliver, learns that Lucille is Sanderson's daughter, but before Oliver can remedy the situation, the distressed woman shoots herself.
