Synopsis

While visiting Musso Danella, a Corsican count, Mr. Barnes of New York meets Marina Paoli, a woman who has vowed revenge against an unknown English soldier who has slain her brother Antonio in a duel. Accompanied by Danella and her foster father Tomasso, Marina goes to Alexandria in search of the assassin and there meets Lieutenant Gerald Anstruther, a wounded English soldier, with whom she falls in love. Meanwhile, in London, Barnes courts Gerald's sister Enid. In Corsica, Marina weds Gerald, but after the ceremony Danella tells Marina that she has married her brother's murderer. Tomasso, bent on revenge, enters Marina's room and, assuming that Danella (secretly hiding behind a curtain) is Gerald, accidentally slays him. Finally, Barnes reveals that although Gerald's pistol was the weapon that caused Antonio's death, he had actually lent the gun to a fellow officer and did not participate in the duel himself.
