Synopsis

Feeling little sympathy for the downtrodden, young millionaire Steven Du Peyster bets attorney Malcolm Blackridge that he could easily exist on six dollars per week. Moving to the slums to win his wager, Steven becomes friends with shopgirl Ruth Vail. When Ruth is arrested on trumped-up charges of soliciting, Steven decides he must forfeit his bet in order to save her. While attempting to reclaim his valuables from Blackridge, however, Steven discovers that the attorney has been preying upon the poor. Blackridge's dishonesty is exposed at Ruth's trial when the shopgirl reveals that she is really an undercover detective. After Blackridge's arrest, Steven enters a life of reform work with Ruth as his partner.
