Synopsis

Lord Dryan marries Giovanna, a beautiful and famous Italian opera singer, and takes her to live in England. Giovanna is deeply in love with Dryan, but the dank English climate soon depresses her, and she longs openly for the sunshine and plaudits of her former life, eventually persuading Dryan to return with her to Venice. Barotti, her former leading man, conspires with Giovanna's maid to gain access to Giovanna's room at night without her knowledge; Dryan finds them together and takes a shot at Barotti. Dryan believes Giovanna to have been unfaithful, and she disappears. Dryan is charged with her murder on circumstantial evidence, but he is acquitted. Dryan goes to kill Barotti, and the tenor falls to his death. Dryan and Giovanna are reunited.
