Synopsis

Mary Hall forsakes the quiet life of her village home to join her sister Helen, a New York chorus girl. During a stage performance, Thomas Webster, with his friend Ted Hunter, sees Helen and is attracted to her. Though Ted thinks her "too respectable," he accompanies Tom to the stage door, where Helen snubs him for his temerity, but Ted succeeds in impressing Mary. Soon, however, Tom contrives to meet Helen, who warns Mary not to encourage Ted, but to no avail. Ted induces Mary to go to a roadhouse, where he makes advances to her and is rendered unconscious in the struggle; she escapes in his car and emerges unharmed from an accident, though she is arrested. In return for bail money, Helen agrees to do anything Tom may ask of her--which turns out to be a proposal of marriage. Mary, disillusioned with the city, determines to go home to her waiting beau.
