Synopsis

Anna, a Russian with a beautiful voice, comes to the United States and experiences great difficulty in becoming established as a singer. She meets and falls in love with Don Harmon, orchestra leader and the son of an opera impresario. The elder Harmon's leading singer, a temperamental diva named Nina, is losing her voice, and Harmon dismisses her. Don then gives Anna a job dancing in a production number, "The Midnight Girl," that is part of the floor show at the café where he works. A theatrical agent working for Don's father discovers Anna and arranges for the girl to see him. The elder Harmon makes a pass at her, and she takes a shot at him, inadvertently wounding Nina, who is hiding behind the curtain in Harmon's study. The accident brings him to his senses, and he is reconciled to his former star. Don marries Anna, and the happy bride becomes a star in the Harmon opera.
