Synopsis

Through the influence of Ivan Kusmin, a powerful Russian banker, an American girl, under the name of Olga Balashova, advances from the ranks of the Imperial Russian Ballet to prima ballerina. Olga meets young Alexei, officer of the grand duke's personal guard, and they fall in love. Alexei is grief-stricken to learn that his brother, leader of a group of nihilists, has been sentenced to Siberia for insulting Sergius, the grand duke; and Olga secretly promises Sergius an evening alone with her if he will pardon the brother. Alexei finds her with the duke and, believing the worst, strikes him, then is later sentenced to death when captured with some revolutionaries. Olga, who is tricked by Kusmin into believing that Alexei is awaiting her, accompanies him aboard a yacht, but Sergius pursues in a fast destroyer and saves her from his clutches. Olga yields herself to Sergius to save Alexei, who faints before a firing squad; realizing their true love, Sergius leaves Olga and Alexei to their happiness.
