Synopsis

Determined that his daughter, Lizzie, will not marry the son of his business rival, Sam Henshaw sends her to finishing school, while Pettigrew, not to be outdone, sends his son, Dan, to Harvard. On returning to her small hometown, Lizzie, having toured Europe, sports the latest fashions and is accompanied by Count Louis Roland, who sees in her an opportunity to marry wealth, leaving Dan in the background. Lizzie's father, unable to keep up with her tastes, declares bankruptcy, and the count refuses to marry her until offered a large dowry, which Henshaw obtains from lender Socrates Potter. Dan discovers that the count is an impostor in time to prevent the wedding, and the count is caught trying to escape with the money. Dan wins Lizzie and settles down on his farm.
