She falls asleep by the fire worrying, and then reluctantly acquiesces. Years later, the Squire, tired of Kathleen's ignorance and short of money, hires three rogues to get rid of her so that he can marry Lady Clancarthy and claim his fortune. After Terence overhears the plot, he rescues Kathleen from a tower and kills one ruffian. The Squire's testimony covicts Terence of murder and he hangs. The heartbroken Kathleen is relieved to be awakened from her dream by the fire by Terence. The Squire backs down from his challenge, and Kathleen and Terence marry.

Notes

This film opened in New York on August 19, 1919 as the second feature on a bill with Evangeline. In 1913, a one-reel film of "Kathleen Mavourneen" was produced by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. and a three reel film was produced by Imp and released by Universal Film Mfg. Co. A six reel version was produced in 1930 by Tiffany Productions, Inc., starring Sally O'Neil and directed by Albert Ray (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.2846), and a British version, also starring O'Neil and directed by Norman Lee, was made in 1937. However, some of these films are based on source material other than the song, and some of their plots vary.
