Synopsis

George Turner decides to find his long absent and presumed dead father Carlyle when he learns that the old man is still alive. During his search, he gets a job as gardener for the wealthy Stephen Winter, and soon begins a romance with Stephen's daughter Lucy. When Stephen finds out about the affair, he throws George off the estate, but has a much harder time getting rid of his guilty conscience. Stephen dreams of the time when he had been the gardener for Carlyle, and of the time when the two men had fallen in love with the same woman, Lucy Lee. Then, after she and Stephen eloped, Lucy Lee realized her mistake and appealed to Carlyle for help. Jealous of his former employer, Stephen trumped up a murder charge against him and had Carlyle thrown in jail, after which Lucy Lee died of a brokenheart. Awakening, Stephen confesses to George and has Carlyle pardoned, and then happily consents to George and Lucy's marriage.

Notes

Contemporary sources indicate that the title of the film is taken from a popular song of the period, but modern sources do not confirm this. The film was re-issued in 1922. (See AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.2829.)
