Synopsis

Five foreign ambassadors formulate a plan to divert capital from America for use in rebuilding their respective countries. The conspirators' hopes lie in winning Henry Winthrop and his associates over to an international steamship trust. Seeking to learn the plans of the American syndicate, they employ Hallam Varrie, a notorious spy, who obtains employment for his confederates as servants in the Winthrop household. One day, a mouse picks up a secret message that Varrie has written to Marcia Elmore, one of his accomplices, and diverts it to the room of Wynn Winthrop, Henry's daughter. Wynn becomes suspicious and pleads with her father to stop withdrawing money from the institutions that he controls. Desperate, Wynn turns to the Secret Service, and with the aid of Chief Concord obtains evidence against Varrie and the conspirators, thus averting disastrous consequences for the United States.
