Synopsis

Helen, a beautiful Yugoslavian stenographer living in New York's Lower East Side, is pursued by her boss, wealthy Yugoslavian lawyer, Richard. Unknown to Helen, Richard has bet his friend $5,000 that he will win her love. Richard truly falls in love with Helen, however, and intends to propose marriage, but Helen finds out about his wager and rejects him. Helen is arrested for theft, and after Richard clears her of the charges, they marry.
