Synopsis

Wealthy Denver artist Burke Harlan seeks refuge from a rainstorm which interrupts his painting, in a cabin where he finds Anne Warren drugged, bound, and gagged. After he fights three thugs attempting to steal Anne's car, Burke himself is arrested as the gang's leader. When Anne's father Wilbur, an amateur criminologist, offers to drop charges so he can try to reform Burke according to his theories, Burke agrees so that he can be near Anne, who is told only that Burke is her father's friend. While Burke excites Wilbur with fabricated tales of his life of crime, he and Anne fall in love, to the dismay of James Roth, a police officer who also loves Anne. After Roth attempts to arrest Burke for a bank robbery and a murder, Burke and Anne elope, chased by the police, to the home of Burke's friend, Jimmy MacDonald, where they marry, after which he confesses his true identity.
