Synopsis

A gang of outlaws, including Buck Hurley, the Nevada Kid, and his friend, Cherokee, holds up a stagecoach. Buck is charmed by Joan, one of the passengers, and exchanges her stolen locket for a kiss. The kiss proves to be his downfall, because the rest of the gang leaves him behind. The stagecoach driver then pulls his gun, and Buck is arrested. Cherokee then steals a petition signed by all the citizens of Rattlesnake Gultch, in which they ask the governor to make the town the county seat, and after altering the petition to make it appear to be a request for Buck's pardon, Cherokee obtains the release of his friend. Believing the petition to be real, Buck decides to go straight. The town citizens, however, are still suspicious of him, but finally he is offered a chance to prove himself by guarding the stagecoach. When the stage is robbed by his old gang and the driver is murdered, the whole town is convinced that Buck is involved. Only Joan believes he is innocent. Buck asks Cherokee to return the stolen money, but he was not involved in the robbery either. Out of friendship, Cherokee tracks down the gang, intending to return the money and clear Buck's name, but is stabbed by one of the gang members. Buck, who has been arrested, escapes, avenges Cherokee's death and returns the money to the express company, reinstating himself in Joan's good graces.
