Synopsis

Ruth Lyons, the granddaughter of a U.S. Navy Admiral, advocates a program of "peace at any price" and strongly opposes the invention of an aerial torpedo by her fiancé Lieutenant Sawyer. Disguised as a socialite, foreign spy Oswald Dudley courts Ruth with the intention of using her connections to secure plans for the new weapon. Playing on her fear of war, Dudley convinces Ruth that her fiancé has devised an odious tool that should be destroyed at any cost. Ruth breaks off her engagement and hands over the torpedo plans, at which point Oswald reveals himself as the enemy. Outraged at the entrapment, Ruth struggles to regain the plans and mortally stabs the spy with her father's sword. Steaming into the area is a fleet of foreign war ships, but Ruth alerts Sawyer and the rest of the Newport naval officers in time to employ the torpedo and defeat the enemy.
