Synopsis

After deserting her husband and daughter Gail, Alice Collingwood leaves New York to marry Henry Thorne. Fifteen years later, Thorne, a financial failure, suddenly wins $15,000 in a game of faro. Thorne announces his intention of leaving with the money but is threatened at gunpoint by Alice who demands her share. Wounded in the ensuing struggle, Alice is left for dead as Thorne heads for New York under an assumed name. With his winnings, he prospers in the stock market and becomes a prominent Wall Street figure. Gail Collingwood, now a reporter for a daily newspaper writing under the name of Alice Gail, interviews Thorne and then falls in love with him. Recovered from her wounds, Alice comes to New York and runs into Gail. When Alice finds out about Gail's involvement with Thorne, she insists on confronting the man with the truth. Stunned by the appearance of his wife, Thorne runs from Gail's house and dies in a car crash.
