Synopsis

When Kayosho, a wealthy curio dealer in California, sees a photograph of Toki-Ye, the niece of Goto, his general manager, he forgets all about his engagement to Hana, Goto's daughter. He sends to Japan for Toki-Ye, but pretends that he is bringing her to California to marry Makino, who runs Kayosho's nurseries. When Toki-Ye arrives, she and Makino fall in love and are married in an American ceremony. Kayosho, however, soon discloses his intention of making Toki-Ye his wife and claims that only a Japanese marriage can be a legal one. Then, when Kayosho is found murdered shortly after making Toki-Ye a prisoner in his house, both she and Makino, each believing the other to be guilty, confess to the crime. Finally, however, it is discovered that Goto killed Kayosho because he had broken his engagement with Hana, and then, cleared of the murder charge, Toki-Ye and Makino begin living as husband and wife.
