Synopsis

Benny Boggs, a good-natured hobo, is rejected at a U.S. Army recruiting station. Arriving at Old Man Cushing's, Benny decides to overcome his aversion to work and help the old farmer for a few days. Cushing falls seriously ill and, believing that he is about to die, asks Benny to deliver a package to his daughter Ruby, who has run away from home to pursue an acting career. Benny soon learns that the package contains $50,000 but resolves, despite his poverty, to live up to the old man's trust. In the city, Benny rescues Beatrice Burnett from an attacker, and the two become friends. Later Beatrice takes Benny to visit her ailing friend, who identifies herself as Old Man Cushing's long-lost daughter. After delivering the money to Ruby, Benny accompanies her back to the farm, where Cushing, having recovered, happily greets them. The army finally accepts Benny, and Ruby promises to marry him when he returns from active duty overseas.
