Synopsis

Lester Knapp is discharged from his position in the office of a department store and, in order for his wife to benefit from his insurance, attempts suicide. He succeeds only in crippling himself, and his wife, Eva, is forced to go to work. Eva becomes quite successful in her job, finding in it the rewards and fulfillment denied her by the drudgery of housework. Confined to a wheelchair, Lester takes care of the house and children, doing the housework both easily and well and making the three children happier than they have been in years. Lester regains the use of his limbs, but, realizing that his recovery means a return to the family's former unhappiness, he conspires with the family doctor to persuade Eva that the time has not yet arrived for him to walk.
