Synopsis
Mary and her mother live in a quiet valley at the foot of a hill on which is located a penitentiary. Three released convicts--Bill, Harry, and Mulligan--all hardened criminals, save Mary from death by intercepting her rearing horse at a railroad crossing. Mary's mother heartily welcomes the men to her home and gives them dinner. The next morning, Mulligan discovers a natural spring on the property and suggests that they doctor the water and pass it off as a life-giving mineral water. Mary sets out to deliver the treated water to a chemist but accidentally spills the container and refills it. Returning home with news that the water is indeed therapeutic, Mary finds that her mother has taken in a poor woman--and her child--who had been betrayed by Sid Atkins, son of the town's wealthiest citizen. Bill becomes attached to this woman, and Harry to Mary. Fearing discovery of his "fraud," Bill convinces Mother that she should sell her house; but later he causes Atkins to rescind the agreement, and all ends happily.
