Synopsis

In a shelltorn German village, deserters Jim Sanderson and Shorty Flynn are questioned by a German colonel, and both give information about the movements of the American Army, but the colonel decides to keep them under surveillance. Jim is assigned to help Cherie Schultz, a German girl who operates a farm, and Shorty is assigned to Big Bertha, whom he manages to boss. While hanging wash on the line, Jim signals an American airplane, thereby obtains a wireless, and is thus able to send a message to his American comrades, who are tunneling to the German headquarters in the castle of the Countess of Lederbon. Cherie informs on him but becomes penitent when she realizes she loves him; and after being betrayed by the colonel, she sends directions to the sappers. All are sentenced to death, but all are saved by the arrival of American troops.
