Synopsis

To relieve the monotony of home life, Leon Kent throws a wild party. Distracted by the noise and drunken revelry, Kent's wife leaves the house with her small son and goes to the house of a sympathetic neighbor, Ross Brewster, a wealthy banker. The following morning, Kent becomes enraged to discover that his wife has spent the night with Brewster; and he divorces her, taking their young son with him. For 25 years, Mrs. Kent, known now by her maiden name, Pearce, and Ross Brewster maintain a beautiful relationship, although they never marry. Brewster's daughter, Judy, returns home with Elliot Owen, a young man whom she introduces as her fiancé. Brewster soon discovers that Owen is guilty of fraudulent investment-promotion, and Owen discloses that he has been married to Judy for 3 months. Brewster refuses to help Owen and hints that the best and most honorable thing for Owen to do would be to kill himself. Owen then reveals that he is the son of Mrs. Pearce. Brewster still refuses to help Owen; Owen is overcome with remorse and jumps over a cliff. He is not killed, however, and Brewster helps him regain spiritual and physical health. Judy gives birth to a child, and Brewster takes Owen into the banking business with him.
