Synopsis

At the outbreak of the Civil War, Alan Kendrick, an officer in the U. S. Army born in the South, sides with the North, but his sweetheart, Maryland, is for the Southern cause. When Alan is captured by the Confederates near her home she succeeds in halting his execution, then aids his escape by silencing the clapper of the warning church bell.
