Synopsis

Art Alvord, a fancy-riding ranch hand with a mysteriously shady past, is challenged to a race by a gray-haired colonel, Jed Leach, who wins with dubious tactics. Alvord is provoked to the point of striking Leach, but he is restrained and eventually becomes the evil colonel's protégé, under threat of revelation of a past crime. He is forced to swindle the ranch hands out of their money. Later, in a different town, Art saves the life of an elderly woman who owns a dairy and falls in love with her daughter, Betty. When the colonel repeats his swindling ruse, Art again assists but soon comes to protest the arrangement. Their critical encounter is overheard by Charles Crane, who informs the sheriff that Art is wanted for murder. When the colonel tries to force the mutinous Art's arrest, he accidentally reveals his own disguise and is himself put behind bars.
