Synopsis

Nara Alexieff, a Russian refugee from the Bolshevik revolution, comes to New York and is "taken up" by society woman Vanessa Yates. She meets Connor Lee, who convinces Nara that her hands have healing powers; sculptor Adam Pine; and Dr. Emlen Claveloux, who falls in love with Nara but rejects her when he suspects she is involved with Pine. Nara causes several cures, and, when the stories reach Emlen's father, the elder Dr. Claveloux begs Nara to help his wife. When she does so, Emlen reconsiders both his total reliance on science and his opinion of Nara, and they marry.
