Synopsis

Colonel Banks, owner of the "Kentucky Derby," a Coney Island concession, sends his daughter, May, to a finishing school. She leaves her father and sweetheart Jim, laughingly remarking that she will "high hat" all her friends when she returns. At school she acquires the mannerisms and tastes of her worldly friends, Alice and Jane, and gets engaged to Walt Keene, who believes she is wealthy. Her association with them changes her into an insufferable snob. Her friends denounce her when, on a jaunt to Coney Island, they discover that her father is not a "Kentucky colonel." After a moment of panic, May decides to return to her former friends and life, and, jumping to the platform, she proceeds to "bark" to the crowd, proving to her father and Jim that she is not ashamed of them. Later, Keene returns to reclaim his diamond ring, saying, "I'll teach you to play with fire, you little carnival trollop." Jim comes to the rescue and gives Keene the thrashing of his life.
