Synopsis

At a board of directors meeting in New York for leaders of the railway industry, John Burkett Ryder, called the richest man in the world, assures his colleagues that within a year Federal Judge Rossmore, whose injunction in favor of the public has angered the magnates, will be impeached. Later, news of the Judge's impeachment causes his daughter Shirley, a writer, to return home from Paris with her sweetheart, Ryder's son Jefferson, who pledges his father's help, unaware of his involvement. Shirley, after discovering that Senator Roberts, who is responsible for the charges, is a tool of Ryder, approaches Ryder under an assumed name, to write his biography. With Jefferson's help, Shirley obtains two letters in Ryder's safe that exonerate her father. Threatening to publicly ridicule Ryder, Shirley makes him wire Roberts to call off the proceedings. Ryder acknowledges his defeat and then good naturedly suggests that Jefferson marry Shirley, which he does.
