Synopsis
While working in a bookstore Lily meets Prell, a young German officer, who falls in love with her; but the "old man," Mertzbach, hears about her and takes her for his own wife. Finding Lily in the arms of Prell, Mertzbach wounds him in a duel and turns her out. She then accepts the attentions of Dehnecke, and Prell overlooks her liaison; but his uncle refuses to accept her, and she returns to Dehnecke.
