Synopsis

Elsa Hausmann would like to marry her suitor, Leo Ostberg, but she hesitates because her father, a European orchestra conductor, is unable to sell his music. Hoping to free his daughter to marry, Hausmann takes a job in vaudeville directing a "comedy symphony." Leo's father meets Hausmann at a social gathering shortly after seeing his act and insists that Leo break his engagement. Hausmann develops a nervous disorder under the strain of his misfortune, and his physicians decide that a severe shock will restore his mental balance. Elsa and Levy, a vaudeville booking agent, arrange for an orchestra to play his symphony in a great open-air theater. When Hausmann hears the strains of his own symphony, he staggers to his feet and rushes to the stage. He is introduced by the leader as the composer. Hausmann directs the orchestra through the remainder of the symphony, thus ensuring his own success and his daughter's happiness.
