Synopsis

John and Mary Warren invest their savings in a home and gold claim in a California desert town that turns out to be a "ghost town." Their puppy, Rinty, gets lost in the desert and grows up as a wild killer, hunted by the local citizens. While John is away, Taylor, the crooked promoter, tries to force his attentions on Mary, but she is saved by her husband; Taylor, hearing of John and Alkali Joe's new gold strike, goes to investigate the matter and kills Alkali Joe; and though attacked by Rinty, Taylor escapes. Rinty comforts Baby Warren when she is ill and convinces Mary that he is their lost dog, but he is injured in evading the posse. The child recovers with the return of the injured dog, who proves Taylor's guilt in the death of Joe and thus is spared from the hand of the law.
